The Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) is a local government body responsible for overseeing zoning-related issues in townships operating under Michigan’s General Law Township Act. The ZBA’s primary role is to hear and decide on appeals regarding zoning ordinance interpretations, variances, and other zoning-related matters.
This includes granting variances to zoning laws when a strict application of the ordinance would cause unnecessary hardship to a property owner, or addressing other appeals related to zoning decisions made by the township planning commission or zoning administrator. The ZBA ensures that zoning regulations are applied fairly while also allowing for flexibility in certain circumstances to accommodate the needs of residents and
property owners.
The Zoning Board of Appeals holds Regular Meetings at 6:30PM on the 4 th Thursday of the month (as needed) at the Covert Township Hall, 73943 E. Lake Street, Covert, MI 49043. Meeting dates and times are subject to change, please check our calendar for the latest updates.
All meetings are open to the public and applications are always accepted for those interested in open positions. Click the appropriate link on the forms section to complete an application.
