The Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) is a local government body responsible for overseeing zoning-related issues in townships operating under Michigan’s General Law Township Act. The ZBA’s primary role is to hear and decide on appeals regarding zoning ordinance interpretations, variances, and other zoning-related matters.

This includes granting variances to zoning laws when a strict application of the ordinance would cause unnecessary hardship to a property owner, or addressing other appeals related to zoning decisions made by the township planning commission or zoning administrator.
