Founded in 1976 by Pearl Sarno, this museum displays a variety of exhibits in a building that was once a general store during the post-Civil War era. From the culture and artifacts of our indigenous people, to the unprecedented early racial integration – visitors are taken on a journey of our story and how it has shaped who we are today.
The mission of the Covert Historical Museum is to protect, preserve and display artifacts and present programs that highlight Covert Township’s unique history as a means of keeping that history alive for future generations. We strive to build bridges between the past and the present by bringing to life family histories, artifacts, pictures and stories depicting early life in Covert Township.
People of all ages and abilities are welcome to volunteer! No experience necessary! We perform a basic background check for the safety of all volunteers.
Funds are used for new exhibits and installations, ongoing repair and maintenance of exhibits and special programming. Check, money orders and cash donations can be mailed or dropped off at the Township Hall (PO BOX 35, 73943 Lake Street, Covert, MI 49043). Checks can be made payable to Covert Township (Memo: Historical Museum).
We also accept donations of objects to add to our collection. Donors must complete the following steps to be considered by the Covert Township Historical Museum Advisory Committee (CTHMC).
1. Read the Donation Fact Sheet in its entirety.
2. Fill out an Acquisition/Donation Request Form.
3. Submit the Acquisition/Donation Request Form in person, or via email to: [email protected] or by mail at: Covert Township Historical Museum, P.O. Box 35, Covert, MI 49043
Upon receipt of the Acquisition/Donation Request form, and review of the item(s), the donation will be accepted into Temporary Custody until a final decision is made by the CTHM Advisory Committee.
